The South Fork Breast Health Coalition works closely with The Women’s Health Partnership of Suffolk County to provide access to low cost breast and cervical cancer screening, diagnostic and treatments services to uninsured women.
The Partnership has been successful in their effort and continues to strive to expand the existing countywide network of hospitals, health care providers and partners in order to meet the needs of the ever-growing population of the uninsured, underinsured and underserved women in Suffolk County.
Utilizing the services of 9 participating hospitals, over 70 participating healthcare providers and the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, the Partnership provides over 5000 breast and cervical cancer screenings annually.
Women who call the Partnership are screened for eligibility by bilingual staff, and are then referred to a participating provider in their community. If a women is found to have an abnormal finding, case management services are available through a Suffolk County Department of Health funded Patient Navigator Program. A Patient Navigator is a Registered Nurse who is experienced in helping women through the health care system. Women are assisted on a one-to-one basis. All barriers to care are assessed and eliminated with the help of community resources. Women diagnosed with breast cancer are cared for from diagnosis through treatment.
