Integrative Medicine
Breast cancer affects the person physically, psychologically, emotionally
and spiritually. Integrative medicine considers the whole person, her needs
and an individual approach to healing. It offers women the opportunity to combine
the science of medicine with the healing properties of other integrative treatments.

Lymphedema Treatment
Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part, usually an extremity, although it
can occur in the face, neck, and abdomen. It is caused by the abnormal accumulation
of lymph fluid. The affected area becomes swollen and enlarged causing a
feeling of heaviness, cosmetic deformity, discomfort, repeated
episodes and infections and may result in cosmetic deformity.
Treatment should be started as soon as lymphedema is diagnosed. A doctor’s
prescription is necessary. The Southampton Hospital Rehabilitation Department
offers specialized care and treatment for lymphedema, which includes instructing
patients on how to avoid lymphedema where possible, and, if prevention is not
possible, to provide a safe and effective treatment plan.
